Botswana Identity Federation (BIF)

The Botswana Identity Federation (BIF) is a national initiative led by the Botswana Research and Education Network (BotsREN) to enable secure and seamless access to digital services for the country’s research and academic institutions.

BIF brings together organizations that collaborate to share identity information in a trusted environment, allowing users to access multiple services using a single institutional login. By leveraging federated identity management, BIF extends the reach of user credentials issued by one member institution, making them valid across all participating organizations.

The federation operates through identity providers (home institutions) and service providers, ensuring that user credentials are securely authenticated and shared only as needed.

Governance of BIF is defined by the Botswana Identity Federation Policy
